The pictures below show the latest elevation done in a cad model. Making the model on cad was able to change some styling of the the design to make it look visually light and gentle I was also able to measure certain elements of the lamp such as the base , joints , lamp head . Overall the design has developed visually now I am concentrating on developing the counterweight in-between the two wooden joints, I will experiment with cork and rubber using foam and cardboard to develop the mechanism aspect.

To develop the design of my lamp I gained inspiration from two designs which have a similar functional purpose of my own design due to the way the lamp articulates and how each section is connected by separate joints .I have noticed that throughout both the designs they include of curved edges and round shapes as well as straight edges.

The lamp head is shaped similar to my design however
is made from wood instead of aluminium. there will be
two LED strips used throughout my design which will offer
more effective lighting

I am continuing to make more 1:1 drawings as I it making me consider the different styles I can achieve throughout my Lamp. I am continuing to develop the previous design further. Some changes which I have made are making each part thinner as well as including radiuses around the corners of the design. The design is beginning to look more gentle and each part is beginning to contrast together to due the length and overall style of the lamp.

Throughout the 1:1 drawing exercise I was able to focus on the style of the lamp and size as well as connections with joints. The previous functional model which was completed was to thick and bold therefore in this drawing I focused to make the joints thin and used a minimal amount of attachments as I noticed the previous model looked cluttered. Another factor which I focused on was making the lamp move around therefore I aim to make the lamp rotate in the joint section. I am still deciding what my counterweight will be ,which can be placed in between the two parts of timber. The idea of making the lamp balance on one side can be difficult as one side might not be strong enough to hold to parts together however will be further developed throughout making models.

The image shows where the lamp will rotate.

For my intern submission model I developed a lamp. the lamp articulates through the use of joints. the LED strip will be soldered individually to get a size which best fits into the aluminium lamp head. some functional purposes which need consideration is making the articulate lamp spin and making sure the joints have some sort of counter weight.

I am joining my parts using nuts and bolts as well as connecting them using a small piece of rubber in the middle to keep the timber joints in place. The joints are strong and easy to articulate.
