Final design: my final design looks like I had pictured it to be. The wire flows through the timber, all the way until it reaches the base if the lamp. The lamp is able to spin the whole way around without effecting the wire as there is a tube placed in between the two joints which allows the lamp to move. A washer is placed in-between to separate the two wooden planks. I aimed to use the aluminium continuously throughout the design and the silver colour scheme therefore was used to cover the bolts and the button was also a silver colour to match the alluminum.

my lamp model is beginning to evolve. I have cut out my timber parts and hollowed them out , big enough for the wire for the LED strips to travel through. I have also finished my lamp base, and made it round using a a wood turning machine. The finish of my base was smooth and cut the appropriate size. my next stage is connecting the joints together and cutting the aluminium parts for my model.

I completed half a foam model which showed the mechanism of how the joints connect together. The two timber parts look as though they are separated from each other as a cork is placed in between them with will allow the joint to move more smoothly. Once the joints were connected together they stayed into place however because foam was used the material was moving and loosing at parts due to the lack of strength. the bolts are going to be deep inside the timber in order for alluminum to be on the outside as it will make the lamp look unique and delicate.

All the additional components for the LED lighting system are shown. with the led lighting strip a wire , button , plug and a plug in socket are included. I plan to solder my LED strip once I have most of my parts cut out as the length needed for the wire is a factor which needs to be considered. making sure that the wire connects to both the button and cord is also another part which needs to be considered as it has to go through the lamp.

The pictures below show the latest elevation done in a cad model. Making the model on cad was able to change some styling of the the design to make it look visually light and gentle I was also able to measure certain elements of the lamp such as the base , joints , lamp head . Overall the design has developed visually now I am concentrating on developing the counterweight in-between the two wooden joints, I will experiment with cork and rubber using foam and cardboard to develop the mechanism aspect.

To develop the design of my lamp I gained inspiration from two designs which have a similar functional purpose of my own design due to the way the lamp articulates and how each section is connected by separate joints .I have noticed that throughout both the designs they include of curved edges and round shapes as well as straight edges.
The lamp head is shaped similar to my design however
is made from wood instead of aluminium. there will be
two LED strips used throughout my design which will offer
more effective lighting
